THE ENHANCEMENT OF STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY USING CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to find enhancement of student’s vocabulary mastery using CTL method. This study used quantitative research method and experimental design. The sample of the study was the students of SMPN 1 Berastagi, in academic year 2014/2015. There were two classes in eight grades which were divided into the experimental group and controlled group with a total of students 60. Pretest, treatment and posttest were done based on the schedule. The experimental group was given treatment through the Contextual Teaching Learning method, while controlled group was given conventional method. Based on the result of the data there is significant difference in students’ vocabulary enhancement between those who were taught using CTL and those were taught using conventional method. From this data the writer concludes that there is a significant difference in use of CTL method to enhance students’ vocabulary mastery. Key Word: Contextual Teaching Learning, Vocabulary
