THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING CROSSWORD PUZZLE TECHNIQUE TO ENHANCE STUDENTS VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT IN SMP NEGERI 1 PARONGPONG, BANDUNG

ABSTRACT This study is aimed to discover whether or not crossword puzzle can improve students' vocabulary achievement. Students loved the use of crossword puzzle in leaming English vocabulary and enjoyed classroom activities during the implementation of crossword puzzle. In addition, crossrvord puzzle not only could improve their vocabulary achievement, but also motivated the students in the leaming processes. The participants of this study were two classes of grade seven students in SMP Negeri 1 Parompong. The data from U test found that the p- value sig (2 tailed) .010 < 0.05, so there is significant difference in students' vocabulary achievement between those who were taught using crossword puzzle technique and those who were taught conventional method. That is rvhy the researcher rvould like to recommend other English Teachers to use of crossu'ord ptzzle ir teaching English vocabulary. Key words: Crossword Puzzle, Vocabulary Achievement
