ABSTRACT A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN STORY MAPPING (SM) TECHNIQUE AND MIND MAPPING TECHNIQUE TOWARDS READING COMPREHENSION ENHANCEMENT OF EIGHTH GRADERS Novia Wulandari ID 1421017 The purpose of this study is to find out the improvement of students’ reading comprehension between those who acquire Story Mapping technique and those who acquire Mind Mapping technique. This study used quantitative research method and comparative design by measuring the achievement of pre-test and post-test. The participants of the study were 72 students of Grade VIII of SMPN 1 Lembang, Bandung Barat in grade VIII H and VIII I. They were divided into 2 groups. The students of grade VIII H acquired Mind Mapping while the students of grade VIII I acquired Story Mapping. The result of this study shows that p. Value (sig) = 0.279 > α (0.05). After analyzing the data, the researcher found out that the students reading comprehension are enhanced but there is no significant difference in reading comprehension enhancement between those who acquired Story Mapping technique and those who acquired Mind Mapping technique.
