ABSTRAC APPLICATION OF CONTEXTUAL LEARNING TYPE HANDS ON ACTIVITY (HOA) AND SAVI (SOMATIC, AUDITORY, VISUAL AND INTELECTUAL) MODEL TO IMPROVE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ MATHEMATICAL UNDERSTANDING Rosmaria Sihotang NIM : 1522008 The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is an improvement in the ability of mathematical understanding of junior high school students through the implementation of the Hands on Activity (HOA) type learning model and the SAVI model (Somatic, Auditory, Visual, and Intelectual). The design of this reasearch uses casual comparative. The research sample consisted of students in class VIII-B and VIII-C Cimahi 10th Middle School. The research instruments are test and non-test instruments. The test instruments were in the form of mathematical understanding questions about the geometry flat side spaces, and non-tests in the form of questionnaires on students' responses to learning. Hypothesis testing uses a t-test at a significant level (α = 0.05). The results of the research show that: 1) the ability of students' mathematical understanding before obtaining the HOA and SAVI learning model is still low, but after obtaining the HOA and SAVI learning models the ability of mathematical understanding has increased in the medium category. 2) There is a significant increase in the ability of mathematical understanding between students who get hands on Activity (HOA) type of contextual learning and students who get SAVI learning models (Somatic, Auditory, Visual, and Intellectual). 3) Response analysis shows students like HOA learning and are normal in SAVI learning.
