FACTORS AFFECTING STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVE TOWARDS THE IMPORTANCE OF LISTENING COMPREHENSION AND ITS CORRELATION

ABSTRACT This research discussed about the factors that affected students’ perspective towards the importance of listening comprehension and its correlation that are the limitation of vocabulary, teaching strategy, the limitation of material and equipment students’ listening anxiety, and the last exposure towards American English and culture. The main purpose of this research was to determine which factor that significantly affects students’ listening comprehension. This research involved three junior high schools in Bandung. They were SMP Negeri 1 Cisarua Bandung, SMP Negeri 3 Cisarua Bandung and SMP Negeri 3 Parongpong Bandung. The pilot test was conducted in SMP Negeri 1 Parongpong Bandung, and the actual test was done in other three schools. In the actual test, the total numbers of respondents were 60 students from grade VIII, by giving the questionnaire. From this study, according to the factor of analysis the highest value of Component Matrixa (0.744) is the limitation of material and equipment, so it is the most dominant factor that affects students’ listening comprehension. The researcher also found that there was one factor that have significant relationship with students’ listening comprehension that is the limitation of material and equipment (0.003).
